International Music Day
On the late 1st October, Idanha-a-Nova, UNESCO Creative City of Music, celebrated the International Music Day, with a wide range of initiatives that promote art and musical diversity.
The day began with the Viola Beiroa Course Construction, under master Alísio Saraiva guidance, at the Municipal Market of Idanha-a-Nova, supported by the Municipality and the Idanhense Philharmonic. This project revives one of the most representative traditional instruments of this region, following Manuel Moreira’s model, one of the last and best known Viola Beiroa players from the village of Penha Garcia in Idanha-a-Nova county. This course will be held every weekend in this municipal space over four months.
Centro Cultural Raiano received the concert "Traditional Music in S. Miguel D’ Acha, by the Coral Stella Vitae Group (Lisbon) and the ADEPAC, folk group (S. Miguel de Acha). Celebrating the musical tradition of S. Miguel D’ Acha, it crossed scholar and popular music, combining new approaches over choral and instrumental components.
The exhibition “70 Years of Music in S. Miguel d'Acha” was also presentes at the occasion, recaling us to the history of music that "(...) accompanied marriages, the washing of clothes, the journey to work, the festivities, the music that calmed fears or was a form of praise and an expression of religious beliefs.".
With a program entirely dedicated to portuguese barroque composers, the Baroque Orchestra presented the concert “Solos of the Portuguese Baroque” in the Church of San Andrés, at Zarza La Mayor, Spain. This concert integrates also the CIOB Autumn Artistic Residence, held between the 29th of September and the 1st of October at Salvaterra do Extremo, with the support of Idanha-a-Nova Creative City of Music.
