Idanha-a-Nova City of Music
Idanha-a-Nova was designated the first UNESCO City of Music in Portugal as part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
Idanha-a-Nova lives to the rhythm of music: it invests in infrastructure, engages deeply with its own traditions and fosters a diverse number of unique traditional groups who, throughout the year, participate in an impressive range of musical events - ranging from modern electronic music to more traditional sounds or classical music - in the context of an extraordinary diversity of experiences that runs transversal to the entire territorial identity.
The UNESCO classification is both a recognition and a stimulus to reinforcing the development strategy of the territory, stimulating the creation of wealth and employment and contributing to attracting and retaining the local population.
In this way, Idanha-a-Nova has established itself as a destination of excellence in the creative industries and an exceptional partner to various national and international cities in the exchange of experiences and knowledge, leading the way in demonstrating the value of small-scale/low-density rural areas on a global scale.
Idanha-a-Nova is UNESCO's Creative City of Music since 2015.
